Do you remember the process of growing flowers and vegetables from seed or young plants in your garden before they were offered in a retail pot and label? In de Garden you can see the growth process and flowering of vegetables, flowers and herbs. It takes you back to the origin of the food we eat and the beautiful bouquet in the vase. Our aim is to create greater awareness, to emphasise the importance of nature and to rediscover lost knowledge. Perhaps we will even inspire you to start a vegetable garden or to plant more flowers and plants in your garden.

de Garden is a garden that has been completely created and maintained by enthusiastic volunteers. All plant material is made available by a large number of renowned companies from the seed breeding and young plant industry. In addition to the standard varieties, we also show the varieties newly developed by these companies in crops that show a significant improvement in characteristics such as  growth uniformity, better disease resistance, higher yield, new plant shapes and colours. Breeding companies in horticulture and floriculture, with the Netherlands as a front runner, make important contributions worldwide to food safety and economic return by introducing numerous new and innovative varieties.

de Garden is located just outside the Enkhuizen fortress wall on the site where the Summergarden of Sluis & Groot, nowadays Syngenta, was located for decades.
